NFL Draft 2026: Mel Kiper identifies rising stars after explosive Combine
The 2026 NFL Combine has concluded, and the draft stock of several key players is on the rise as teams head back to their headquarters to finalize their boards. Renowned analyst Mel Kiper has identified 13 specific players who significantly boosted their standing with standout performances in Indianapolis. Among the notable names is Sonny Styles, a versatile defensive standout who has seen his projections jump into the top 10 after showcasing rare athleticism and speed for his size. The combine has once again proven to be a pivotal moment for collegiate athletes, where a few seconds on a 40-yard dash or a high-pressure interview can result in millions of dollars in difference in rookie contracts.
Draft expert Lance Zierlein has also released his NFL mock draft 2.0, which reflects the shifts caused by the combine results. In Zierlein’s latest projection, two cornerbacks have cracked the top five, signaling a high demand for elite secondary talent in a league that is increasingly dominated by high-powered passing offenses. The depth of the 2026 class is particularly strong in the defensive backfield and along the offensive line, giving teams with early picks plenty of options to address critical needs. For franchises like the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards, who are currently focused on their own mid-season struggles on the basketball court, the NFL draft serves as a reminder of the constant cycle of renewal and talent acquisition that defines professional sports in America.
Beyond the traditional metrics of the combine, teams are also looking at the personality and merchandise potential of the next generation of stars. This is exemplified by the recent buzz surrounding Arman Tsarukyan, who released a line of merchandise celebrating a viral five-word response to a brawl. While Tsarukyan is in the world of combat sports, the crossover between athlete branding and fan engagement is something NFL scouts are increasingly mindful of. As the draft approaches, the focus will shift from physical testing to game film and individual workouts, but the foundation laid during the combine will remain a primary factor in how the first round unfolds. Football fans across the country are now eagerly anticipating the draft, where the next crop of superstars will find their new homes in the professional ranks.
