King Charles makes extraordinary intervention into case of Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi

King Charles III has made an extraordinary and personal intervention in the case of Myanmar’s detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi, reaching out with diplomatic correspondence to her undisclosed location under house arrest in the capital Naypyitaw. The Myanmar regime released rare photographs of Ms Suu Kyi on Monday as she received the King’s correspondence, which included a sealed letter and two books on environmental matters. It marks an exceptionally rare insight into the conditions of Ms Suu Kyi’s detention, with only a couple of other images released by the military-backed government in the five years since she was ousted in a coup.
